In our previous Report it was proposed to construct a
buttress to lend additional support to the rock fill, but it
was afterwards decided that it would be preferable to fill
with concrete the space previously occupied by the sand, and
this work is approaching completion.
LEAKAGE
The exploratory work has shown that the reinforced
concrete core wall was in good condition, although it had
moved at the top, and therefore the main cause of the leakage
must be sought elsewhere.
Measurements of the discharge of the underdrains
indicate that the leakage practically ceases when the
reservoir is drawn down about 30 feet, and further
exploratory work will be undertaken to endeavour to locate
and stop it.
We are sending a copy of this letter to the Director
of Public Works, Hong Kong.
We are, Gentlemen,
Your obedient servants,
BINNIE, DEACON & GOURLEY.
